Within some of the tales are elements of tragic events that lead to ill-fated circumstances and sometimes vengeful haunts returning to a scene. “The Hole That Will Not Stay Filled” was my favorite of the bunch.

Sweet little ghost stories, but don't expect them to be compelling or scary.

I really enjoyed this book. Being a believer in ghost and experiencing encounters such as these. I find this book pleasing to read and hard to set aside. Well written.
I first read Kathryn Tucker Windham's 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey when I was 13, and heartily recommend it for readers looking for a book full of atmospheric tales. These are not scary stories, but rather true tales of haunted places in Alabama, stories reeking of lost romance and beautiful storytelling. Perfect for curling up in a chair with during a storm or a quiet fall evening.
This was a truly delightful read and I relished every page. If you love local, hometown Southern history and folklore, I highly recommend this book. It reads as if Kathryn Tuxker Windham herawself were telling these to you in your own livingroom. This is a fascinating must-read if you want true Alabama author enticity. Pour a cup of coffee and sit back and dive in. You won' regret it. And, don't worry about those clomping footsteps down the hall. It's iijust Jeffry.
So far i'm loving this book. I'm really not much of a reader but i've always had a HUGE interest in ghosts. Please note this isn't really a scary book. The "Jeffrey" part refers to the friendly ghost named Jeffrey, who appeared in the Windham house in Selma years ago. That's what this book was dedicated to and most likely how this book all started. In addition to Jeffrey, there are 13 other real ghost stories that gives a decent amount of information. Ghosts are most certainly real and many hauntings exist around the world. Books like these also have me do more research on some of these hauntings so I can get a better understanding of the "unexplained" in our world. These ghost stories aren't just fun to read but they also have a rich history behind them. If you have a strong interest in ghosts like I do, this is a great book to read. I hope I continue to find more books like these in the future. I have never seen a ghost before but I know this is real.
